St. Lucia Photo Gallery

We visited St. Lucia in 1993. This was the first trip outside of Canada that we took together.

As you can see in the map to the right, it is located in the southern area of the Lesser Antilles. The French were the first European settlers on the island but it was part of a war between Britain and France for 14 years during the 1600s. The island actually changed possession 14 times (7 British and 7 French) during this period. Ultimately, the island remained under British rule until 1979 when it became an independent nation.

St. Lucia is a lush magnificent island. Dominated by high peaks and rain forests in the interior, the 616-square-kilometer (238-square-mile) island is known for the twin peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton on the southwestern coast, its soft sandy beaches, and its magnificent natural harbors.

Our home in St. Lucia was the unique and luxurious Ladera Resort.

Ladera is located on a UNESCO World Heritage site high on the Soufriere Volcano overlooking the Pitons and Caribbean.

Apart from the magnificent scenery, Ladera is unique because all rooms have only 3 walls. The fourth wall is open which allows an unencumbered and breathtaking view of this outstanding scenery.

We apologize for the quality of the videos. They were taken in 1993 with a new analogue camcorder and Gary was still learning how to use it. We didn't take photos, so for the purpose of this web page we did "cheat a little" by "borrowing" a few pictures from the internet. They show locations that we experienced but were unable to photograph while we were there. Nonetheless, they still tell our story.

Below are thumbnails of each of the photos or videos.
