The last part of our 2009 trip was a wonderful week in Bora Bora.
French Polynesia is a large group of islands in the South Pacific midway between Australia and South America. The main island is Tahiti. Bora Bora is part of French Polynesia and lies 140 miles northwest of Tahiti. Most people consider Tahiti the stereotypical tropical island paradise. We spent a couple of days on Tahiti and it is very nice but didn't really live up to our fantasy of a tropical paradise. |

However, Bora Bora has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth!
As you can see in the map to the left, it consists of
a large mountainous island surrounded by a ring of small islands called "motu".
Both the main island and the motus are covered with lush green vegitation and
prolific colourful tropical flowers.
A beautiful turquoise lagoon is located between the central island and the surrounding motus and fringing reef. Most of the island's resorts are located on the surrounding motus with their over-the-water bungalows extending into the lagoon. |

We spent an idyllic week in an over-the-water bungalow at
Pearl Beach Resort.
Subsequent to our visit, the resort has been rebranded as
Le Bora Bora.
This experience has been at the top of our "bucket list" for many years. Sometimes
you can be disappointed by an experience if you have anticipated it for a long time.
However, Bora Bora more than lived up to our expectations. The island was beautiful.
The resort was amazing. The food and service were outstanding. This is one
place that is well worth a return visit! As a matter of fact, we did just that. We made return trips
in October 2010 and May 2014 and had fantastic visits!
